About Kelley
Kelley is a Jeffersonville native raising her family in downtown.
Anchored in her neighborhood, she and her family are members of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, and Kelley is on the Board of Directors of the Center for Lay Ministries which provides food and other assistance for those in need. Her church and the Center are both located within a block of her Maple St. home.
Kelley’s professional interests and areas of expertise are varied. She works as a tax professional seasonally, helps struggling students as a master tutor and is a communications professional focusing on assisting activists and non-profits share their message while she also works as a writer and editor. Maintaining these varied professional roles allows Kelley to keep her schedule flexible, remaining available for her family and free to pursue non-work-related interests.
It is as a writer on the subjects of politics and the media that Kelley is probably most familiar to those in her community. She wrote a weekly opinion column that was published by the local paper for more than three years and still shares her insights on her regularly updated blog Southern Indiana Agitator.
Her education has signficantly influenced her writing interests and council candidacy. Kelley earned an associate degree in journalism and bachelor degree in political science while attending Indiana University Southeast. While in college, Kelley held several leadership positions including serving as founding president of the IUS College Libertarians, public relations officer for the IUS Civil Liberties Union and vice president of the IUS chapter of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.
More recently, Kelley was asked to join the Clark County Chatter staff as a forum leader and was elected Treasurer of the newly formed South Central Indiana League of Women Voters.
She hopes to help move Jeffersonville city government closer to the ideal imagined by this nation’s founders by bringing Jeff back to the people.
